Linking Urban Floods to Citizen Science and Low Impact Development in Poorly Gauged Basins under Climate Changes for Dynamic Resilience Evaluation

چکیده

Cities must develop actions that reduce flood risk in the face of extreme rainfall events. In this study, dynamic resilience Gregorio catchment (São Carlos, Brazil) was assessed. The lacks environmental monitoring and suffers from recurrent floods. curves were made considering water depth drainage system as performance index, obtained by simulations with SWMM HEC-RAS. calibration extension performed using citizen science data. contribution to increasing implementing decentralized low impact development (LID) practices also evaluated. For purpose, bioretention cells added simulations. then calculated for current future climate scenario, without LID, return periods 5, 10, 50, 100 years duration 30, 60, 120 min. Intensity–duration–frequency (IDFs) updated regional model MIROC5 2050 2100 used. results showed a significant improvement system’s light storms period due LID practice interventions. Efficiencies reduced moderate heavy no drops floodwater regardless scenario.

Impact of urban development and land use changes on the climate of the city of Shiraz and Fasa

Expansion of urban areas has impacted on climate in local and global scale. As a result, residents’ life would be influenced accordingly. In this study, the effects of changes in land cover and land use change on climate of Shiraz and Fasa were studied in a long-term period. To ensure the normal data, Kolmogrov-Smirnoff test was employed. The minimum and maximum temperature parameters and relat...

Linking changes in community composition and function under climate change.

Climate change is expected to directly alter the composition of communities and the functioning of ecosystems across the globe. Improving our understanding of links between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning across large spatial scales and rapid global change is a major priority to help identify management responses that will retain diverse, functioning systems. Here we address this challen...

Citizen Science for Citizen Access to Law

Over 2014, the Cornell University Legal Information Institute and the Australian National University worked with users of the Cornell LII site in a citizen science project to collect over 43,000 crowdsourced assessments of the readability of legal and other sentences. Readers (“citizen scientists”) on legislative pages of the LII site were asked to rate passages from the United States Code and ...

Citizen Science: linking the recent rapid advances of plant flowering in Canada with climate variability

The timing of crucial events in plant life cycles is shifting in response to climate change. We use phenology records from PlantWatch Canada 'Citizen Science' networks to study recent rapid shifts of flowering phenology and its relationship with climate. The average first flower bloom day of 19 Canadian plant species has advanced by about 9 days during 2001-2012. 73% of the rapid and unpreceden...
